Her family

Little Lyla is not so little anymore. She understands what is going around her. She knows that mama has her house and dad has his... she understands that daddy comes to pick her up some days and she misses him. She knows that there are special things that she does with mama e some special things daddy and her get to share alone (like playing the drums). She also knows that in our own way we are her family. Ex and I have tried to focus on Lyla and lyla and only. We spend time the 3 of us playing when we do the pick ups and drop offs, we celebrated her birthday together, we laugh at the funny things she says, we coordinate schedules* The other day Lyla was drawing and I could hear her saying: thats mama, Lyla , Daddy and Neal (her dog). That made my heart smile. Not because of this was the family I always wanted, but because even though this family unit no longer exists for me , it is very real for her. We are both there for her, somehow she knows we are working together for her. I know things change, but for now I am just happy Lyla is happy and knows how loved she is by both mama and daddy.

* Time has taught me to think of him just like her Dad and that was a turning point for us to be able to just "hang out" .

You are handling this so well for her to be able to understand that. Well done.

You have done a great job with handling this situation. I know it can't always be easy, but you are doing it well.

You are doing a great job at helping her to have her family even if it's not how you planned it.
